Towergate help fund over 300 new ChildLine counsellors through £500,000 donation

Towergate Insurance has helped recruit 323 volunteer counsellors for ChildLine by helping to raise over £500,000 for the charity.

Staff and clients across Towergate’s UK offices have been involved in a variety of fund raising activities including dress down days, auctions and charity walks and marathons.  The money has helped ChlidLine recruit and train 323 UK wide volunteer counsellors, taking their total number to nearly 1500.

The new counsellors will help an additional 65,000 children make direct contact with ChildLine.  In the past year ChildLine answered 473,000 calls. However a third of the children who currently call ChildLine are unable to get through to a counsellor as the demand for the service is so high. The number of calls is expected to increase as ChildLine help more children understand that they can talk to someone. Currently only 25% of children that suffer abuse tell any one. ChildLine's goal is to answer every call, email or text from every child who needs help.

Jonathan Walker, CEO of Towergate Insurance said, "For many children who call, it's the first time they have tried to tell someone what they are experiencing. So with an additional 323 new counsellors on board we are helping to answer every call and never leave a child feeling afraid or alone."
