On Monday 4 January 2021, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that new lockdown restrictions would come into force across England from midnight alongside similar measures in place for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

It is hoped these restrictions will help to reduce the spread of the coronavirus variants and prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed, particularly as we head towards the January peak of hospital admissions that are usually experienced on a seasonal basis.
